The Regional Chapter Meeting of the Global Network for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECPnet) Africa (AFR) Regional Chapter was held from 2-3 June 2016, in Kampala, Uganda, in conjunction with the 9th African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ARSCP-9).
The Regional Chapter meeting was convened to galvanize knowledge transfer, networking and joint actions of the members of RECPnet in pursuit of the further scaling up and mainstreaming of RECP in the AFR region and beyond.
Specifically it is aimed to:
- Take stock of the development of RECPnet and RECP initiatives and successes in the region;
- Discuss the status of the implementation of the RECPnet Work Plan 2016, and progress made towards the objectives of the Operational Strategy for RECPnet 2015-2020;
- Kick off work in the region’s Thematic Working Groups;
- Discuss emerging opportunities and challenges as a basis for future activities of RECPnet within the region.
The meeting focused on practical suggestions towards the activities of the Regional Chapter, including topics of joint interest for knowledge sharing and joint project development through Thematic Working Groups. The main fields of discussion were:
- Overview of Ongoing Activities and Initiatives from AFR Regional Chapter members – a wide-ranging presentation of projects and RECP-related activities of the AFR Chapter members.
- RECPnet Website, Social Media and Knowledge Management System (KMS) – current status and outlook of the knowledge sharing activities in the network, including information on the knowledge platform, strategy for social media presence, and tools and method to improve the network’s knowledge development culture
- RECPnet in the 2030 Agenda – what the emerging opportunities for the AFR Chapter in the 2030 Agenda are, and – in consequence – what the RECPnet Strategy 2015-2020 and Work Plan 2016 offer to achieve and maintain a sustainable RECPnet

The Regional Chapter meeting was organized in tandem with the 9th African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production, in order to facilitate collective advocacy for RECP and the capacities of RECPnet in the AFR Region and to enable members of RECPnet to stay abreast of current developments in the area of RECP in particular in Africa.
